2001 chevrolet blazer review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The blazer remains a competent vehicle and it costs much less than the new models. lineupafter simplifying the blazer lineup for 2000, chevrolet has added a new blazer variation for 2001. Called xtreme, it is available only as a two-door, and only with two-wheel drive. A california cruiser's dream machine, xtreme comes with a special z87 lowered suspension; low-profile p235/60r16 eagle ls tires; deep-dish aluminum wheels; and an aggressively spoilered, clad, and color-keyed exterior. Xtreme prices start at $21,125.  the rest of the model line continues unchanged. Prices range from $24,770 for the 2wd ls up to $32,125 for the 4wd trailblazer. walkaroundchevy blazer is a traditional suv, all truck with separate body-and-frame construction. Variations in the grille, bumper, and wheels distinguish one trim level from another.  all blazers are powered by a 4. 3-liter vortec v6. This 90-degree v6 has a cast-iron block and head and overhead valves, and runs happily on 87 octane gasoline. Although redlined at 5600 rpm, it reaches its peak 190 horsepower at 4400 rpm. And, with a very useful 250 pound-feet of torque at 2800 rpm, there's little need to rev it into the red. Autotrac combines the best of full-time and part-time 4wd by adding an 'auto 4wd' button. In this mode, the transfer case remains in 2wd until wheel slip is detected. An electric servo then shifts the transfer case into 4wd until prop shaft speeds are equalized, and then returns it to 2wd. If multiple 'slip events' are detected, the transfer case remains in 4wd for a longer time. Autotrac also has a transfer case neutral position for towing behind a recreational vehicle.  all blazers use a short-/long-arm front suspension and a live axle on leaf springs at the rear (variable-rate, multi-leaf springs on trailblazer). 4x4 models are sprung by torsion bars up front, while 4x2's have coil springs. Using firm de carbon shock absorbers and stiffer spring rates, the z85 package has a more controlled ride than the old smooth ride suspension. Zr2 substitutes stronger parts throughout the chassis, plus skid plates, a track bar for the locking rear axle, a 3. 9-inch wider tread and stiffer springs with bilstein gas-pressure shocks.  aluminum wheels are standard on all blazers, differing in design according to model. Though not as radical as larger 4x4 rides, the blazer has a higher seating height than the typical sedan. The payback is that commanding view of the road that suv owners cherish.  inside, the lt features standard 'premium cloth' high-back bucket seats with eight-way power standard for the driver. Power is optional for the front passenger seat, and two-setting memory seat adjustment is available for the driver's seat.  the front seats are broad with limited bolstering. They are more like comfortable chairs than sports-car bucket seats. An annoying bulge in the front passenger's footwell accommodates the blazer's exhaust. The rear bench is low; it is comfortable for two adults, though three will fit. The rear seatback splits and folds 60-40 for cargo flexibility.  the blazer comes with full instrumentation that is well laid out; it shares its instrument panel with gm's other blazer-class trucks. General motors has made major strides in its minor controls, and the dash of the trailblazer is an excellent example. Tilt wheel, two auxiliary power outlets, am/fm stereo with cd player, and an overhead console with an outside temperature readout are also standard. New for 2001 is onstar, gm's remote communications system, standard on lt and trailblazer. Air conditioning is standard on all blazers, with automatic climate control optional on the lt and standard on trailblazer. driving impressionthe engine fires off eagerly with a twist of the key and settles to an idle that's steady but telegraphs some of the basic imbalance of a 90-degree v6. That smoothes as revs increase, and in the operating range between 2000 and 3000 rpm the vortec is a friendly companion. Full throttle causes the v6 to accelerate with a healthy growl that gets louder as revs rise. But the reward is an easily discernable improvement in responsiveness, a reduction in float and, thanks to greater roll resistance, less lean in the corners. The result is an overall greater feel of control and confidence at the minor cost of a slightly bumpier ride.  the auto 4wd mode can be used at all times. It keeps the transfer case in two-wheel drive until slip occurs, so there's no fuel-mileage penalty. The v6 operates in the low 2000-rpm range at highway speeds and, except for a subtle bass-line from the engine and a steady road rumble up through the suspension, the ride is quiet enough for easy conversation between front and rear passengers. The tires selected by chevrolet are free of whine and aren't so heavy as to overwhelm the suspension. A slight whisper of wind noise around the a-pillars is the only other distraction. The ride, though firm, is not at all harsh or jiggly. Not all sport utilities are this civilized over the road, and we wouldn't hesitate to drive a high-mile day in the blazer.  loading for a big trip would be easy. Access to the commodious cargo compartment is via a rear liftgate. It will do everything a car will do, and almost as well. Plus it adds almost unstoppable mobility in the worst weather and the capability to go where the roads don't. 2006 chevrolet impala review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New structure, new styling, new interior. introductionthe impala has been changing, morphing, and maturing with the vagaries of the market since 1958 when the first one showed up as a coupe and convertible.  now, the chevrolet impala has been substantially upgraded for 2006. The 2006 impala features new and very attractive exterior styling, a new interior, and a choice of three new engines.  the new impala is a comfortable and convenient car, roomy, easy to get in, with big grab-style door handles. It's a practical sedan with innovative flip-and-fold back seats and folding rear seatbacks. And it comes well-equipped with safety features, including side-curtain airbags. The impala lt best exemplifies the model line, especially when ordered with the larger, 3. 9-liter engine, which delivers responsive performance. The ltz upgrades with leather, a very nice xm satellite radio setup and other convenience features.  an inexpensive pricing structure with loads of rebates on it puts the new impala on the shopping list for family sedans. Impala competes with the ford five hundred, chrysler 300, dodge charger, honda accord, toyota camry, and nissan altima.  the ss stuffs a small-block v8 into this package. It comes with the bare essentials, such as air conditioning, power windows and locks, am/fm/cd, cruise control, cloth upholstery, a bench seat, and 16-inch steel wheels. Anti-lock brakes are optional 600).  the lt is available with the 3. 5-liter v6 21,860) or a new 3. 9-liter v6 24,760), which includes 17-inch alloy wheels. The ss comes with 18-inch wheels and tires and a performance suspension.  safety features that come standard include dual front smart air bags, and side-curtain roof-mounted air bags. Underneath, it gets a stiff new body and chassis structure, retuned suspensions with a 10-mm wider track, and new 16-, 17- and 18-inch wheels and tires.  the ls, lt and ltz share one front end design, while the ss has a completely different nose architecture. interiorthe new impala has a lot going for it inside as well, with a completely new, cleaned-up interior, reshaped and reupholstered seats, and flip/fold rear seats.  we felt pretty comfortable overall inside the impala. The seats have firmer cushions and increased lumbar support than previous models. We didn't find the ss seats particularly comfortable or supportive, with too much lumbar support and not enough side bolstering to retain the upper body in corners. Optional leather-covered seating has a new style of seams around the perimeter and french seams on the center sections.  the impala also has a new twin-brow instrument panel design that wraps around into the door panels. Ls, lt and ltz models have a wood trim, with brushed silver trim optional. The impala ss comes standard with metallic trim panels, with wood trim as an option. We found the panel pleasing to the eye, colorful, entertaining and easy to use, with a nice all-of-a-piece unity and style to it. We found the interior materials at least one grade better than the usual chevrolet stuff.  the optional dual-zone climate control system can have up to a 12-degree temperature difference side-to-side. It's a snap to use, with large, round control knobs and good markings. The optional remote engine start system comes with a 200-foot operating range and automatic climate pre-conditioning to warm or cool the interior. The dashboard has an expanded driver information center, now with more than 50 different alerts, depending on the vehicle's equipment. The base audio system includes am/fm/cd and six speakers. An optional mp3/cd-radio is configured for xm satellite radio, with a two-line, 32-character display and the capability to select freely between am, fm and xm. Setting these presets is as easy as holding the button down. A big round knob in the center allows quick volume adjustments. The optional icdx radio adds an in-dash six-cd changer. All radios include a standard auxiliary input jack for external devices such as an ipod or remote cassette player.  the rear seat is roomy and comfortable for two adults or three kids, but not three adults. The rear seat cushions flip forward to create a covered storage area under the seat (with cushions down) and grocery bag hooks when the cushions are flipped. The seatback also folds down flat to create a large pass-through port to the trunk.  trunk space, at 18. 5 cubic feet, is more than competitive in the segment, and it has a huge opening for easy loading. driving impressionthe new chevrolet impala comes with a new generation of v6 engines. We found them to be smooth and quiet if not bristling with power. Variable valve timing is a first for the impala's cam-in-block v6 engines. The system changes the orientation of the camshaft, automatically adjusting the timing of the intake and exhaust valves for better performance, economy, and emissions. Thus, a system that started out on very expensive imported cars has now reached down to the lowly chevy v6 engines and made them better.  the 3. 5-liter v6 that comes on lt and ls models generates 211 horsepower and 214 pound-feet of torque. The 3. 9-liter v6 that comes on ls and ltz models produces 242 horsepower and 242 pound-feet of torque. We're expecting both engines to earn fuel economy ratings of about 19/29 mpg city/highway.  with 303 horsepower, the impala ss has more power and torque than any other entry in the class, but the chassis that comes with the v8 needs taming. While we appreciated the extra power and torque available in a kickdown or passing situation, and we loved the brawny, muscular sound of this engine at full throttle, it's a challenge to launch cleanly and quickly at the same time. Besides wheelspin, there's a lot of torque steering. This system helps provide up to 8 percent better fuel economy in light-load driving conditions. However, there is a lot of pitch, dive, and body roll in this chassis, and a lot of uncertain driving moments with the added power of the ss. Steering is over-assisted, fairly numb and uncommunicative.  the impala's front suspension is a macpherson strut coil-over-spring independent design, with gas-charged struts and a stabilizer bar with new, taller jounce bumpers. The rear suspension uses a trailing arm, tri-link setup with gas-charged struts and coil springs. A rear stabilizer bar is standard on all models. The new abs includes electronic brake-force distribution. summarythe new chevrolet impala represents an improvement over previous models. The 3. 5 and 3. 9 v6 lt and ltz versions are pleasing to drive overall. While the ss cuts a conservative but dashing figure with its quiet badging and giant five-spoke, 18-inch wheels, it's got more power than it k. 2005 chevrolet trailblazer review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Improved safety features for a superb family vehicle. introductionchevrolet trailblazer is powerful, rugged and capable, yet smooth, comfortable and civilized. Its rigid chassis, sophisticated suspension, powerful brakes and impressive details place it among the best of the mid-size suvs. It's stable and manuverable, and provides a smooth ride. Trailblazer comes standard with a superbly smooth and modern inline six-cylinder engine.  an extended-wheelbase model called the trailblazer ext adds three-row seating, accomodating up to seven people. It comes standard with the same excellent six-cylinder engine, but a new v8 is also available.  new for 2005, the vortec 5300 v8 with its displacement on demand technology promises about 8 percent better fuel economy than the engine it replaces. Equipped with the v8, a 2wd trailblazer ext can tow up to 7,000 pounds. The ext needs the v8 due to its heavier weight, and because of its much greater length, the ext lacks the handling and stability that make the standard trailblazer such a great family vehicle.  curtain side-impact airbags with a rollover sensing system designed to provide increased head protection are available on 2005 models. Also new is an occupant-sensing system for the front passenger-side airbag. There are also improved seats, refinements to the navigation system and more bright trim for the interior. lineuptrailblazer comes in two trim levels, ls and lt. An optional package 1,185) adds remote keyless entry, content-theft alarm, heated foldaway mirrors, a rear window defogger, color-keyed carpeted floor mats, crossbars for the luggage rack, and charcoal-colored body-side moldings.  lt 30,370) adds fog lamps, an overhead console with homelink transmitter and travelnote digital recorder, body-color grille and door handles, eight-way power for the driver's seat, a trailer wiring harness and 17-inch aluminum wheels. Two-tone leather seating surfaces, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual front eight-way power reclining bucket seats with adjustable lumbar support is available as a package 1,180).  trailblazer ext ls 29,840) and trailblazer ext lt 32,020) are equipped similarly to their standard-wheelbase counterparts, but add third-row seating plus separate rear-seat heating and air conditioning controls. So is cruise control 275), a tilt-and-slide sunroof 950), and onstar 695), although onstar and cruise control are available as a special package for just $70. Adjustable pedals 150) and navigation 1,600-$1,995) are offered on the lt only. Xm satellite radio 325) is optional on all models, and an mp3 player is offered on ls 135). Dvd entertainment 1,295) is available on all models. Various axle ratios (3. 42, 3. 73, and 4. 10:1) and a locking differential are also avialable. walkaroundtrailblazer's styling helped blaze the trail for the latest chevy truck design. It's an aggressive look with bold headlamps and a split grille. The horizontal bar that splits the grille, headlamps and turn signals is chromed on the ls, body-colored on the lt. The front bumper features a large opening with two vertical slats, and the optional foglights are mounted down low. The front end of the trailblazer makes it look like a scaled-down suburban or silverado.  overall, trailblazer looks sturdy and neat, with confident lines that express utility. The pillars and window lines are graceful, while the big fender flares are visually bold. At the rear is a convenient step in the center of the bumper. But the stacked round taillights look lumpy and googly-eyed.  the track (the distance between the left and right tires) is the widest in the class, 2. 2 inches wider than the ford explorer in front and nearly an inch wider in the rear. This gives the trailblazer more hip and shoulder room.  the easiest way to tell the trailblazer from the trailblazer ext is to look at the rear passenger doors; they're full-size doors on the ext but the rear wheel wells cut into them on the standard-length model. The seven-seat trailblazer ext is 16 inches longer in wheelbase than the standard five-seat trailblazer and looks disproportianately long and narrow. interiorthe trailblazer's seats have been revised for improved comfort for 2005. Seat adjustments are manual in the ls. Eight-way power operation with memory and seat heaters is available on fully optioned lt models. Power adjustable pedals on the lt 150) allow shorter drivers to move the brake and accelerator pedals up to three inches closer for better positioning and comfort without having to move to close to the airbag-equipped steering wheel. It's a good safety feature and popular among women.  the standard trailblazer seats five passengers, while the trailblazer ext seats seven. Second-row space is nearly identical between trailblazer and trailblazer ext. Both offer more room in the second row than the ford explorer, particularly hip room.  cargo space in the ext is generous. The cargo floor isn't as flat as we'd like, though, and a gap between the two third-row seats makes it less dog-friendly.  the explorer, however, provides a bit more third-row people room than the trailblazer ext. Head, hip, and leg room in the explorer's third row measure 38. 9, 45. 4, and 34. 9 inches, respectively. The corresponding numbers for the trailblazer ext are 38. 1, 49. 2, and 31. 2. Trailblazer ext is 2. 6 inches wider than explorer, which accounts for the additional hip room. But clearly, the explorer's independent rear suspension, and resulting low floor, allowed ford to pack more leg room and head room into a significantly shorter wheelbase.  all trailblazers feature complete and clean instrumentation. A big tachometer is on the left, speedometer in center, and on the right are smaller gauges for water, battery, gas and oil. Heating and air conditioning can be controlled separately by the driver and front-seat passenger. Ext models add separate climate controls for rear-seat passengers as well. Interior lights abound, including reading lights.  the center console includes an open storage bin, an enclosed compartment and two cup holders forward of the gear lever plus two cup holders for the rear passengers. There are pockets in the front doors and behind the front seats, though none in the rear doors. Behind the rear seat is a small hidden compartment under the floor, while optional features include a cargo net, scrolling tonneau cover and power outlet. An overhead console on the lt includes a sunglasses holder plus travelnote digital recorder.  head-curtain side-impact airbags 495) unfold from the roof rail between the a-pillar and side window header. When the bag deploys in a moderate-to-severe side impact, it is angled somewhat toward the window to help provide protection for front and rear-seat outboard passengers. The new system replaces the previous seat-mounted system, which protected the driver and front-seat passenger only. Trailblazers equipped with head-curtain airbags also feature a new rollover sensing system that triggers both the side-curtain airbags and safety belt pretensioners. The rollover-sensing module uses a complex algorithm based on lateral and vertical accelerations, roll rate and vehicle speed to determine whether to deploy the safety systems. Standard on the 2005 trailblazer is gm's passenger sensing system (pss), which can deactivate the front-passenger airbag if it senses an unoccupied front passenger seat or the presence of a smaller occupant. A status indicator on the instrument panel alerts occupants that the passenger airbag is on or off. Even with this system, however, we strongly recommend carrying under-age passengers in an appropriate child seat placed in the second. driving impressiontrailblazer's six-cylinder engine is smooth and quiet. And the faster it goes, the smoother it seems to get. It's an inline-6, a design that's inherently better balanced than a v6. It idles so smoothly that a device was added that prevents the starter from grinding if the key is turned when the engine is already running.  called the vortec 4200, the 4. 2-liter.

2007 chevrolet silverado 1500 classic review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. A brand-new example of an old truck. introductionthink of the 2007 chevy silverado classic as a completely restored vintage truck. Or perhaps it's more like the discovery of a brand-new vehicle sitting in an old, abandoned warehouse.  chevy truck introduced an all-new line of silverado pickups for 2007 and we love them. The 2007 silverado classic is exactly the same truck as the 2006 silverado, which was essentially the same as the 2005, 2004, and 2003 models.  these previous-generation trucks are sold on the basis of price. The 2007 silverado classic models retail for about $2,000 less than the newer generation models. And that's not counting rebates and incentives.  the newer generation silverado is vastly superior to the outgoing classic by every measure and it will almost certainly hold its value better.  still, the silverado classic is a solid truck. It certainly beats a used truck. It's quick and it's comfortable. Boxed and hydroformed frame rails give it a strong, rigid platform, like a rock, as its ads used to say. Heated leather seats, xm satellite radio and other options make long days spent in a silverado classic comfortable. Three trim levels are available: w/t, ls, and lt, plus a sporty ss. Avaialble only as a crew cab with a 6-foot, 6-inch bed (instead of the standard 1500 crew cab's 5-foot, 8-inch bed), the 1500hd hauls 3,129 pounds with 2wd, 2,838 pounds with 4wd, and tows up to 10,300 pounds. Power is provided by the big 6. 0-liter v8 that's used in the 2500hd/3500.  standard equipment on all silverado classics, even the most basic w/t (work truck, for $15,840), are am/fm stereo, tilt steering, driver information center, a chromed front bumper, painter rear step bumber, and 17-inch painted steel wheels. Air conditioning is now listed as an option 570). Extended cabs 21,465) come with automtic transmission.  moving up to ls trim (starting at $20,075) adds air conditioning, cruise control, a cd player, cloth instead of vinyl upholstery, and an expanded list of options. Ls extended cabs 23,940) come with automatic transission, and crew cabs 24,965) come with the 4. 8-liter v8.  silverado lt (starting at $23,350) is more luxurious, with carpeting, upgraded upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and power windows, locks and mirrors. Again the crew cab version 28,515) comes with more, including the 5. 3-liter v8. Lt2 and lt3 option packages add yet more equipment, but both price and specific content depend on cab style, driveline, and other factors. Add a heavy-duty locking rear differential 325), fog lamps 140), and lt245/70r17 all-terrain tires 200) for serious off-roading.  silverado classic ss 33,280) is a performance model equipped with a high-output 345 horsepower vortec 6000 6. 0-liter engine designed for quick acceleration and relaxed cruising. Ss gets a high-performance z60 chassis package; optional 20-inch wheels and tires; and special exterior and interior trim. For the first time it is offered with 2wd as well as awd, the former giving this performance truck an 8100-pound towing capacity.  a hybrid option 1,500) is available in several states. Crew cab models offer a panasonic dvd passenger entertainment system 1,295) and rear-seat audio controls. Extended cabs and crew cabs offer a power sunroof 795). A passenger-s. walkaroundthe styling of the 2007 chevrolet silverado classic has an edgy angularity that the new silverado has abandoned in favor of a smoother, more aerodynamicaly integrated appearance. The mid-size colorado pickup still shares the classic's bold design cues; but otherwise chevy trucks (tahoe, suburban, avalanche, silverado) have all moved on to the new look.  one of silverado classic's most distinctive features are the way its headlights angle down at the top, like the determined eyebrows of a marine drill sergeant. A large band runs across the middle of the grille punctuated in the middle by a big, gold chevy bow tie. All of this seemed smoothly integrated into the front end, at least until we saw how much more smoothly the new silverado was put together. The classic's flared engine hood and squared-off wheel openings continue its aggressive theme down the sides of the truck. In the rear are bulging taillamps that maintain the chevrolet family look yet uniquely identify the silverado classic.  silverado classic's large door openings make getting in and out easier, and the door handles are big and easy to grab. Optional puddle lamps mounted beneath the big side mirrors light the ground along the sides of the truck, handy in the city as much as in the woods. Heavy-duty models have running lights on the roof, tailgate, and leading and trailing edges of their bulging rear fenders. They add visibility for improved safety. Indentations stamped into the inner bed walls can hold boards to form bulkhead dividers or a second floor for two-tier loading. The silverado's load floor is 31. 6 inches above the ground on 2wd models, and 33. 7 inches with 4wd. That's relatively low, and low is good when loading heavy cargo. Standard-box beds are 78. 7 inches long; long boxes are 97. 6 inches long. Both are 64. 8 inches wide at the floor. The crew cab's short box is 69. 2 inches long and 60. 2 inches wide at the floor. All three measure 50 inches wide between the wheel housings. interiorinside, the silverado classic is roomy and comfortable. The seats are big and cushy, though we don't always find them comfortable for long trips. The standard front bench seat can seat three, giving extended cab and crew cab models a six-person capacity. It's split 40/20/40, available in cloth or vinyl, and the middle part folds down to become a center console/armrest. We wouldn't want to ride across the state back there, but three adults can fit and be reasonably comfortable for a short trip. The rear-seat bottom folds up to provide space for cargo, but it's still in the way when trying to carry a lot of stuff, and the floor is not flat. The entire rear seat assembly can be removed with a wrench and lifted out through the door when cargo capacity is more important than passenger space.  crew cabs offer roomy rear seats and additional interior cargo space. The back seats in crew cab models are very comfortable, similar to the rear seats in a suburban or tahoe. The rear seats can be flipped down, like those in a suburban, to provide a big, secure cargo area.  optional bucket seats are more comfortable and adjust every which way. We like both the premium cloth and the optional leather. The bucket seats are separated by a deep center console that holds lots of stuff. The top of the lid features a nice rubber-lined indention handy for small items, though it would be even better if the rubber was an insert that could be removed for cleaning. The top of the console is angled forward, which seems unfortunate because clipboards and other items placed there tend to slide off. A big coat hook makes p. 2007 chevrolet silverado 1500 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The all-new next-generation pickups are here. introductionthe all-new chevy silverado is here. Completely redesigned, the new silverado is built on a stiffer chassis. Also very important, the 2007 silverado features an all-new interior that can be outfitted for work or pleasure.  the new silverado is designed to continue its reputation among owners as the 'strongest, most dependable and longest lasting truck on the road.'  the new styling is bold yet still conservative when compared with the latest pickups from dodge, nissan, toyota and ford. While the sheet metal is all new, the main reason the new silverado looks bolder is that it's three inches wider in front and an inch wider in the rear than the outgoing generation. (the older-generation trucks will continue to be sold as the 2007 silverado classic. Naturally, not all engines  extended cab and crew cab models have back seats and windows in the side doors that power down. The extended cab has rear access doors that are hinged at the rear but that open to 170 degrees to provide full access to the rear seating area.  the standard cab can be outfitted with a standard (6-foot, 6-inch) or long (8-foot) beds. Options include driver and front-seat side-impact air bags, side-curtain airbags, stabilitrak electronic stability control with rollover mitigation technology, autotrack active transfer case, ultrasonic rear parking assist, onstar.  option prices vary by trim level and body style. Among them: a cargo management rail system for the truck bed 175), a power sliding sunroof 795), 20-inch wheels 1,295), a power sliding rear window 200), rear-seat entertainment system 1,955), navigation system 2,250), rear-locking differential 395), stabilitrak electronic stability control 425). Accessories such as step rails and chrome exterior trim are available from chevy truck dealers.  note that until production of the all-new 2007 model ramps up, dealers will continue to sell the former version as the 2007 chevrolet silverado classic. This is the previous-generation version and should not be confused with the vehicle covered in this report. walkaroundthe 2007 chevy silverado may not have the aggressive styling of the dodge ram or nissan titan or even the toyota tundra or ford f-150, but its upright design may be considered both bold and appealing to its faithful customers, and they buy hundreds of thousands of silverados each year.  the new design gives the 2007 chevy silverado a taller and stronger appearance than the previous generation. Indeed, the new silverado should look stronger because it's some three inches wider in front and an inch wider in the rear.  however, a more raked windshield (raked at 57 degrees) and careful aerodynamic and body-building engineering make the truck both quieter on the inside and more fuel efficient. Gm boasts that the silverado and gmc sierra are the first full-size trucks to offer both 300 horsepower and 20 miles per gallon on the highway.  the large, gold chevy bowtie badge is set against a wide, three-bar chrome grille. The grille is flanked by stacked headlamps sporting the latest reflector-optics. The front bumper incorporates rectangular fog lamps.  the hood has a wide power dome. Bulging front fenders wrap over the front wheels and incorporate the headlamps within their forward sweep. Likewise, the rear quarter panels are punctuated by large faired wheel wells.  the rear view of the truck features stacked tail lamps on either side of a tall tailgate that has a sculpted center section that mimics and inverts the shape of the fender flares.  built on what general motors calls its gmt900 platform, the silverado shares much of its underpinnings with the tahoe suv, though the pickup truck gets a unique rear frame section that is 245 percent stiffer. Overall, compared to the former gmt800 truck, the frame is 234 percent stiffer torsionally, 62 percent more resistant to bending and 136 percent stiffer laterally. All of this allows such things as reducing the gap between the truck bed and passenger compartment and between fenders and bumpers. It also enhances aerodynamics and fuel efficiency and allows suspension components to provide improved ride and handling characteristics.  the front suspension has switched from torsion bars to coil-over shock absorbers and the rack-and-pinion steering gear is mounted to the engine cross member frame to provide enhanced control and feedback. The truck also has a new rear axle design with shocks absorbers mounted outboard and more upright for better dynamic control. interiorthe silverado wt and lt come with what chevy calls the pure pickup truck interior while the ltz features a more luxurious interior.  the pure pickup interior is more driver oriented, includes two glove boxes in the dashboard, one of them just about the right size to hold a pair of work gloves and a few small items, and a 40/20/40-split front bench seat with the center section of the seat back folding down to form a wide arm rest with lots of storage capacity. This interior also features larger switchgear controls and interior door handles designed to be easily manipulated even while wearing bulky work gloves.  the more luxury-oriented interior includes bucket seats with a permanent center console with 20 liters of storage capacity. The center stack also puts ventilation and audio controls within easy site and reach of the front seat passenger. This version has a single glove box in the dash.  extended cabs feature stadium-style seating with an elevated view for those sitting in the second row. Both the extended cab and crew cab versions offer plenty of rear legroom. The rear seat bottoms can be easily be folded up to provide more room on the floor for cargo. Rear seats are split 60/40 so one side can be folded up for cargo while the other is used for seating.  chevy says the interior of the new sierra is 20 percent quieter than its predecessor, thanks to enhanced insulation materials, much like those used in the company's sport utility vehicles, and to aerodynamic improvements that reduce wind noise. driving impressionwe've driven two versions of the all-new 2007 chevy silverado on paved and gravel roads in the desert west and north of phoenix. Later we got into the more upscale version of the lt with an extended cab and standard bed, same v8 engine and same z85 suspension. But it also was sure-footed and the v8 provided more than sufficient. Bucket Seats✔ Power Windows✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ AM/FM✔ CD Changer✔ Navigation System✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ CD Player✔ Aluminum Wheels

2001 chevrolet tahoe review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Best in class and an ideal size. introductionchevrolet's tahoe seems at times the perfect size. And it more easily handles a trailer. Yet it's far more maneuverable than a suburban, important in crowded parking lots, underground garages, or when parallel parking.  on the road, it's smooth and stable, a rock. There's plenty of power and the brakes work well. Its cabin is comfortable and familiar, friendly and functional. Turn off the highway and the tahoe handles gravel, rugged two-tracks, mud, and snow. lineupthree models are available: base, ls, and lt.  the base model is a stripped-down vinyl-seat work truck sold in small quantities. Base 4x2 retails for $24,941, while 4x4 goes for $27,857. Custom cloth front seatsthese base models come equipped with the vortec 4800 v8.  most people opt for the ls and lt models, which come with the vortec 5300 v8. Sold as packages, ls adds $6,164 to the base model prices, while lt adds $10,638 to the bottom line.  tahoe 2wd ls 31,105) and 4wd ls 34,021) come with a comfortable cloth interior and most of the features most of us want.  tahoe 2wd lt 35,579) and lt 4x4 38,495) come loaded with leather upholstery, power seats, premium ride suspension, onstar driver assistance, automatic climate control, and other features.  also available is a z71 model with a specially tuned off-road suspension with special shocks and jounce bumpers, skid plates, a locking rear differential, and a roof rack with lights.  other options include a power sliding sunroof package 1095) with homelink and the autoride suspension 700) with variable shock dampening. walkaroundconservative styling means the tahoe doesn't stand out, but it is an attractive truck. It shares much in common with the suburban and the silverado pickup. Pull door handles are easy to use.  at the rear, there's a choice of a traditional hatch with a flip-up window or panel doors, also known as barn doors or cargo doors. Choosing between them is a matter of lifestyle and personal preference. Cargo doors are standard on the base tahoe and optional on the ls and lt models; cargo doors are more convenient when towing and for other truck chores, and they make it easier to control a dog. The traditional hatch is made of aluminum for light weight; being able to open just the glass is often more convenient when loading groceries or outdoor gear, especially since it can be operated with the keyless remote. The automatic locking feature can be turned off by the dealer. interiortahoe's interior is comfortable, user-friendly, and attractive. Step-in height is lower than it is with pre-2000 models, making it easier to climb in and out. Controls are mounted within easy reach. Visibility is very good through big windows.  it's comfortable up front with nice cloth or leather seats, well-designed switchgear, and map lights that can be aimed. The cupholders are nicely designed and there's a place for a sunglasses case or wallet. Three power outlets in front and one in back deliver electricity for accessories.  it's also quite comfortable in the second row. Separate rear audio and heating and air conditioning controls are available. A pair of map lights flanks each dome light on the second and third row, a great feature when traveling or accessing gear.  folding the second-row seats down provides enormous cargo capacity, useful for outdoor activities and home-improvement weekends. Getting in and out of the third row isn't easy, however. And once back there, it's uncomfortable for an adult. The suburban is far more practical than the tahoe for carrying six or seven people on a regular basis.  in terms of flexibility, however, the tahoe's third-row seats comprise one of the best designs in the business. They can be quickly folded and flipped out of they way. Better yet, they're easy to remove: just fold down, flip up, grab the release handle, and roll them out on their wheels. They're not light, but one person can remove each of the two seats. Storing them in the garage is a good idea as it opens up more cargo space. This leaves room for five people and lots of cargo. There's plenty of room back there for a big dog. Reinstalling the third-row seats is a snap. driving impressionthe tahoe rides smoothly and it's stable and comfortable at higher speeds. It handles bumpy roads well. The z71 package seems to improve the ride quality on gravel and washboard surfaces.  a five-link independent rear suspension provides better ride and handling than the ford expedition. The front suspension is conventional in design, except for the springs. To save space, the tahoe uses torsion bars instead of coil springs. The tahoe's conventional ladder frame is fully boxed in the mid-section for maximum rigidity, while the front and rear portions are shaped by the same hydro-forming technique used to make corvette frames. This design is a key to the tahoe's excellent ride and handling. At the very front of the frame is a section that is designed to crush and absorb impacts in a crash.  optional premium ride self-leveling rear shocks 366) use hydraulics to help maintain trim height for better handling when hauling heavy cargo or pulling a trailer. Better is the optional autoride suspension 700), which electronically controls rear air shocks to provide real-time suspension damping. Press a button and gm's tow/haul mode, standard on these new suvs, holds the transmission in gear longer and shifts more abruptly to keep the transmission cooler.  the recirculating-ball steering provides good control and feedback, even if it falls short of the rack-and-pinion steering found on the ford explorer. Tahoe's power steering system is designed for durability by operating at a lower temperature range.  tahoe is relatively easy to park. With its shorter wheelbase, shorter rear overhang and taller ground clearance, the tahoe traverses gullies and other rugged terrain where the suburban scrapes bottom. Likewise, the tahoe is shorter and more maneuverable than the ford expedition. Even though the tahoe is an inch wider than the expedition, i find it easier to judge the distance between the tahoe's right front corner and a tree. We towed a heavily laden horse trailer without trailer brakes connected and were impressed with its braking ability. A dynamic proportioning system continuously balances the front and rear brakes for maximum braking without activating the abs.  chevy's small-block overhead-valve v8s are excellent. They rival competitors' overhead-cam engines for smoothness and efficiency, and deliver strong torque for towing. The 4. 8-liter version cranks out 275 horsepower, which is 20 more than the old 5. 7-liter motor. At the same time, it is quite efficient; the 2wd, 4. 8-liter version, for example, earns 20 mpg on the epa's highway mileage test. It delivers strong acceleration performance and burns regular unleaded fuel; the 5. 3-liter engine earns an epa-estimated 14/17 mpg city/highway.  the tahoe doesn't offer the off-road capability of a jeep grand cherokee, toyota land cruiser, or land rover discovery. The tahoe will, however, get to most of the places most of us want to go. Press the auto 4wd button for inconsistent road conditions. Power will only be sent to the rear wheels when there's good grip, but any loss of traction will cause power to be directed to the front wheels. This works well when patches of snow and ice are on the road. I like using auto 4wd on gravel roads where it seems to offer the best handling balance. Press the. summarychevrolet's tahoe makes a lot of sense for someone who wants a big sport-utility, but doesn't want to manhandle a suburban every day. We think the tahoe delivers a better driving experience than the ford expedition and some of its cargo-carrying ergonomics seem to have the edge. For many people, it's the ideal suv. model lineup2wd base 24,941); 2wd ls 31,105); 2wd lt 35,579); 4wd base 27,857); 4wd ls 34,021); 4wd lt 38,495). assembled injanesville, wisconsin. options as testedt.
